"This NY/NJ-based group is led by Ankles frontman Shaun Towey, who recorded this debut LP with members of HIGGINS and other area musicians. Their breezy, trippy, and moderately fuzzed-out pop hints at a '60s influence, sporadically evoking The Rolling Stones, Velvet Underground and the Kinks. But they frequently resemble more modern outfits such as Dandy Warhols, Teenage Fanclub and Luna, while occasionally exhibiting Jesus & Mary Chain or Spiritualized psychedelic ambience. Meanwhile, Towey casually delivers his soft-spoken vocals with a cool, semi-detached air, like a combination of Lou Reed and Ray Davies. With the exception of the aggressive, chugging rocker "What Does the Moon Say?," the radiant, gratifying album never strays too far from its relaxed, sunny vibe." - Mark Suppanz

Au: This acclaimed Portland experimental pop collective's debut album was named the '#2 Portland Album of 2007' by the Portland Mercury. They have been compared to the likes of Arnold Dreyblatt, Animal Collective, and Grizzly Bear. Pitchfork wrote of Au's unique sound, "Luke Wyland is a classically-trained pianist, and the instrument's inventive incorporation couples with his unique treatment of stringed noisemakers to lend Au an intriguing baroque and experimental sensibility". Their highly anticipated second album, "Verbs" was released by Aagoo Records June 24th.

Sleep Out: This Chicago Indie-Pop band is known for its sparky guitars and sing-a-long melodies. Punk Planet called their last album "one of the best debuts of 2006". Their new album, Not Even Dust was released July 8th.

"Is Hostage Juliet a not-so thinly veiled Shakespeare reference? Who's to say, but the local quartet is perfectly suited for a My Bloody Valentine dance party--even if it's not really the most dance-able music around--with their faithful shoegaze. It's laidback, plenty thick, and sure to induce sighs, even with cascading washes of gorgeous melodies and beautiful vocals." - The Onion

Their second record entitled "Potomac and Shenandoah," a concept album detailing the convergence and conflict of secularism and religion personified in the lives of two sisters, was released in November, 2006. Their first full-length record, "Circle the Day," was released in 2004. They contributed two original songs to a compilation cd in the August '06 issue of the art 'zine "Bailliwik" (www.bailliwik.org). The songs are "Gravity of Orbits (Secret Clone)" and "Fifty Ways to Sunday." They concern illicit robot love...and what happens when the robot leaves you.

Lord of the Yum-Yum: Known for strange vocal ruminations and a hilarious live show, Lord of the Yum-Yum promises only the highest quality, most enriching and mind numbing entertainment all at the same time. Lord of the Yum-Yum, aka Paul V., combines a guttural scat vocal style, classical/jazz themes, throat singing, improvisation, and electronics to take the modern voice to a new place.
